The smirk on Sanchez’s face had lasted long enough for Jack to reach his breaking point. There was no way Jack would jeopardize the case by getting physical, even though that’s exactly what he wanted to do.

With Kiko there, not to mention the lawyer—who would just love to slap Jack with an assault charge of his own—he had to be more careful.

“Your smirk tells me you think you can get away with hinting at the truth, like OJ did with that stupid book ‘If I Did It’ and that stupid interview. That you can taunt us, whisper little details of the murders without admitting anything. But it doesn’t matter because we are going to prove your guilt. Not to mention the fact that you’re still going to be in jail for the rest of your life for assaulting me.”

Sanchez let out a long, bellowing laugh that was totally incongruous with the rest of his speech and personality. “You think I’m smirking because I did it. No, I’m smirking because I didn’t do it, and the evidence I have to prove it is going to keep me out of prison.”
